Average tuition and fees for in-state students at public four-year colleges and universities in 2012-13 were recorded at $8,655, while average total charges, including tuition and fees and room and board, totaled $17,860. Average tuition and fees for out-of-state students at public four-year institutions were $21,706, while average total charges were $30,911. At private, nonprofit four-year colleges and universities, average tuition and fees in 2012-13 came in at $29,056, while total charges were $39,518.
